raiblockscommunity.net miner is distributing private funds.
It means we must buy XRB before distribute them. It means we are not getting XRB for free like when the raiblocks faucet was running (now is closed forever because all remaining funds have been burned).
It won't use captcha or advertising because fight bots and pools was too hard and we don't want to run in the same troubles again for the moment.

So let's say XRB was on the same scale as Visa.
Looks like they do 150 million transactions per day.
Works out to about 1700 tps.
(I realize this fluctuates and the peak is much higher
but to give XRB some help let's assume they can spread out the txs evenly).
I can't find an exact number,
but it seems like 100 million is a reasonable guess at the number of Visa accounts.
Now from what I understand when a node receives an XRB transaction
it must look up the account blockchain and compare the new block to the previous head block.
In out situation this look up must occur by querying a 100,000,000 acct ledger 1700 tps
(and dealing with any controversial blocks, voting,etc).
What kind of computing power are we talking about to keep up with this?
Is it reasonable that nodes of this scale will be affordable for people to run?
I ask this as an engineer but not one with any advanced computer knowledge.

Good question and it’s definitely scalable.
Lookups like this scale with the logarithm of the data set size O(log N)
with a tree-like structure or O(1) if they’re based on a hashtable.

To get an idea of how this scales,
if it was a simple binary tree with 1,000 entries it would take 10 lookups.
With 1,000,000 entries it takes 20 and 1 billion would take 30

he biggest resources it’ll need is network bandwidth.
This is an issue with all cryptos but the volume has never been enough to really point that out.
I think we have some good plans with the small size of our transactions and using multicast in IPv6.

Next will be disk IO.
We did some synthetic benchmarks on a home ssd seems to be able to do severe thousand tps.
IO scalability has lots of options because data centers need this all the time

RetroXRBWallet (https://github.com/jamescoxon/RetroXRBWallet) is a pathfinder design, to demonstrate and test some of the technology which will be used in the mobile/light wallet. It is purposefully retro to make it fast and efficient.

Currently works on Mac OS X and Linux, we are going to make some Windows binary soon.
